Getting Paid

One of the many definitions of "professional" is: "Performed by persons receiving pay." In that sense, I am now a professional blogger!

That's right, you see those little ads to the right under the "Blogher Ad Network" language? Every time one of you views my blog with one of those ads on it, I get a smidgen of cash. Over time, that ads up and yesterday I received my first ever check from Blogher! They don't pay you until you have accumulated more than $25 and yesterday I got a check for $27 and some change. It covered the time period between October and December of 2006.

Thanks to all of you for contributing to my payday!

It may not be enough to quit my day job, but at this point it just about pays for my TypePad account. Not bad, huh? (She pats herself on the back).

Okay, grandma, now get pissing

I just read this hysterical post on The Huffington Post written by Bill Maher. It is about a rule (law?) in Florida (of course, where else?) that requires that all library volunteers be drug tested. As noted in Maher's piece, the average age of library volunteers is between 60 and 85.

And Maher's comment about the last time a librarian did anything stupid and reckless while on drugs is not to be missed. You gotta read the whole thing.

We have WAY too many other things to be worried about. Especially in Florida. How about drug testing the Governor and the people he has appointed? How about spending the money and time on something more productive and important like, oh, say the homeless problem, the crime rate, the state of health care?

New Tool! Quaman

New to me, anyway! Got the idea from The Human Capitalist. It is a blog editing tool called Quaman that can be used on or off line, and can link to all of your blogs. It imports your already established categories etc. This is the first post that I'm trying using the new tool.

A Hard Day's Work

Whew! 5 blog posts today for me on KRON's The Bay Area is Talking as a guest blogger. I was supposed to do a minimum of 6 posts, but damn it! It is harder than you think to pull 6 posts out of your arse in one day. Brian is a god and deserves to get paid for what he does everyday. I have to admit, I think that it made me a better blogger.

I used Moveable Type for the first time and had to really surf the blogs and the news to put posts together that were somewhat interesting and timely. I can to Technorati tags with my eyes closed now. Going back to my blog with one post every day or so will seem like a friggin' vacation now!

I was going to say good luck to badgerbag and Grace and the others that will be doing the guest blogging later this week, but as they are the goddesses of blogging I don't think they'll be needing any kind of good luck.

Aligning myself with the more traditional media (just this one time, I promise), I would like to say:

"Good night and good luck" (cause I'm going to veg out infront of West Wing and then call it a blogging day!)

Guest Blogging for TBAiT!

This Sunday I will be guest blogging at "The Bay Area is Talking" otherwise and affectionately known as TBAiT. For the next week various Bay Area bloggers will each take a day and guest blog for Brian while is attending VJ training.

No pressure or anything! Some other folks who will be taking a turn are Josh, Grace, Jackson, and Liz. Pretty surly company, but now that I'm feeling a little better and have cleared my weekend so that I can sit around and blog for hours, I should be OK. Stay tuned! And wish me luck!

Amazing Grace

I could not be more proud of my dear friend and fellow mommy blogger, Grace Davis. She has outdone herself yet again. Check out her wonderful work over at Hurricane Katrina Direct Relief. She has leveraged her techi skills to help out in the relief effort. The story is a great one. So great that she was featured on KRON TV this weekend. Check it out for yourself! Who's Blogging This?

So my kids went to the opening of Star Wars on the 19th at the theater in Redwood City. They say that they saw a woman there who was wearing the "I'm blogging this" t-shirt. I tried to pump him for info to see if I could figure out who it was, but you know how observant 14 year old boys are. Was it any of you? He was there for the 12:05 show (playing hookie of course, bad Mommy).

A NEW BLOG! Yes, I love finding new blogs to read. But even better is finding that a long time friend has taken the leap into the blog world! Check out Becky's Bizzaro blog. Becka is a friend of mine going way back to high school days. She has had some amazing life experiences and she travels frequently (well, frequently compared to me anyway). You Gotta Read This

This is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time. Take a look at the whole site, but this post is what sucked me in. It is The Gangstas Guide to Grocery Shopping. An honest look from the point of a black man in a black neighborhood who really wants to know...His name is Panama and he lives in DC. I love reading blogs by people who live in different parts of the country/world and who have a very different life experience than me. A black man living in DC is, in fact, living a very different life from the one I live. I will be reading Panama's blog regularly!

Who, me? Blogging?

First of all, a big shout out to my sister-friend, Grace for getting me started with this blogging madness. Check out Grace's blog to see what inspired me. She's a righteous woman, indeed.

I've spent too much work time getting this blog set up, so for now this will be a short entry. I must fulfill a promise to Grace, however by mentioning the "Yogurt Incident" with my 13 year old son last night. Here goes:

Grace and I were lamenting about how our 13 year old children could be so, well, 13! Last night as the rest of the family was trying to go about its business (homework, cleaning, TV, scratching the dogs, reading etc.), my 13 year old son, Payton decided that the word de jour was "yogurt." This meant that at any given moment Payton would blurt out the word de jour in the most irritating way possible. He somehow managed to twist the word into something that sounded like "Youuuguuuuurt." The purpose of this word play was lost on all of this and as Darren (my 11 year old son) began shouting "Shut UP!" at Payton, I started to loose it. My husband and I call it unnecessary noise, the kids seem to think it's funny. Lord help us. Why do 13 year old boys do the things they do? Having never been a 13 year old boy myself, I may never know.
